Overview

The DCYF Oversight Board was created by HB 1661 in 2017 and was fully formed in March 2019. The Oversight Board is an independent body consisting of 21 members.

The Oversight Board exists for the purpose of monitoring and ensuring that DCYF achieves the stated outcomes as intended by the legislation, and to ensure that the department complies with administrative acts, relevant statutes, rules, and policies pertaining to early earning, juvenile rehabilitation, juvenile justice, and children and family services.

      Public Comment

      Ways to Provide Public Comment

      1. If you wish to provide written public comment email Nickolaus.Colgan@gov.wa.gov your written comment by end of day the Monday before a board meeting. Please be sure to state in your email you wish this to be included as written public comment.
         
      2. Public comment is provided at board meetings during specific times on the agenda, if you wish to sign up for public comment during a meeting email Nickolaus.Colgan@gov.wa.gov. To ensure there is enough time for all who have signed up please keep your comments between 3-5 minutes.

      If you are looking to file a complaint regarding:

      • Any child at risk of abuse, neglect, or other harm.
      • A child or parent involved with child protection or child welfare services.
      • The safety or welfare of children in state care.

      *The DCYF Oversight Board does not intervene in individual cases. The Board’s purpose is to monitor and ensure that DCYF makes progress towards achieving the stated outcomes as identified in RCW 43.216.015.*
