Governor Inslee signed HB 1661 on July 6, 2017, creating the Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF). DCYF is a cabinet-level agency focused on the well-being of children, and combines the services and functions of the former DSHS Children’s Administration and Department of Early Learning. Beginning July 1, 2019 the DSHS Juvenile Rehabilitation (JRA) will join DCYF.
RCW 43.216.015 creates an oversight board for DCYF – details regarding the board begin in subsection (9). OFCO is working to establish this board which is authorized to monitor and ensure DCYF achieves its stated goals and outcomes.
